Harro Ruijsenaars, Gothenburg
Born in 1945 in Holland, near Haarlem, Ruijsenaars studied the cello with Maurice Gendron from 1964 - 1967. From 1977 - 1989 Harro Ruijsenaars was principal cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, a position he relinquished to concentrate on a solo career. He has been professor at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, guest professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and from 2001 professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, combining this position with a parttime job as principal cellist in the Residentie Orchestra of The Hague
He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, in the USA, the former Soviet Union and the Far East, performing under the batons of such distinguished conductors as Antal Dorati, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Neeme Järvi, Hans Vonk and Gennady Rozhdestvensky. His repertoire includes more than 30 cello concertos.
As a chamber musician he played with a.o. the Alban Berg Quartet, the Nash Ensemble, Roland Pöntinen, Rostislaw Dubinsky, Victor Liberman, Jaap van Zweden, Nobuko Imai and Anner Bylsma.
