Reinhard Latzko, Vienna


Born in Bavaria, Germany, lives in Vienna where he has held the position of professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts since 2003. In a relatively short time he has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s finest young teachers succeeding Boris Pergamenschikow as Professor at the Basel Academy of Music in 1988 where he taught until 2005. He studied with Jan Polasek, Martin Ostertag and Heinrich Schiff. Winner of several national and international prizes a.o. in Geneva and Venice.

Between 1987-2003 he worked as principal cellist of SWR-Symphony-Orchestra Freiburg and has given masterclasses in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Korea and Austria. As a chamber musician he has performed at Wiener Konzerthaus, Wiener Musikverein, Philharmonie Berlin and Cologne and Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels working with a.o. Christian Tetzlaff, Heinrich Schiff, Ernst Kovacic and Christian Altenburger. As soloist he has performed with Basler Sinfonieorchester, SWR-Sinfonieorchester, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich etc.
