Jakob
Kullberg, Copenhagen
"He has an amazing control of line, and is always bang in tune even in the most finger-twisting passages” Daily Telegraph - June 20th 2007
Jakob Kullberg was born in Aarhus, Denmark. One of the most accomplished young instrumentalists in Denmark, Kullberg combines solo engagements and chamber music performances with that of teaching at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He studied in Amsterdam, London, Vienna, Zagreb and Copenhagen from 1998-2007, and later specialized in a stylistic authentic approach to Bach’s Cello Suites with Anner Bylsma.
A prize winner at international and national solo and chamber music competitions, in 2007 Kullberg was Artist in Residence with the Danish Radio and the Round Tower, Copenhagen, and with the International Carl Nielsen Violin Competition in 2008.

He enjoys a unique working relationship with the Danish composer Per Nørgård who has composed and dedicated numerous works including his 4th Solo Sonata and 2nd Cello Concerto for him and has performed as soloist with several of the Danish Orchestras as well as internationally, most recently at The Warsaw Autumn Festival in Poland. Kullberg has given masterclasses at the Oxford Cello School, as well as in Sweden and Norway, and has been artistic director of the Open Strings Masterclass at Frederiksdal Manor, Denmark since 2004.
